Drinking water during swimming lessons is essential.
When we're swimming (which is still an exercise) we also sweat - like any other exercise.
However, as we're in water and wet we don't notice or feel it.
Staying hydrated helps prevent a decline in performance, strength, power, and aerobic and anaerobic capacity during exercise.
Without an adequate supply of water the body will lack energy and muscles may cramp and swimmers could feel tired and may experience headaches etc.
So, the next time you bring your little one to swimming lessons, make sure they've drunk enough water, bring a water bottle and they also keep drinking after the lesson.
But it's not just in the swimming pool that hydration is important.
Here are 10 reasons why we need to keep drinking water when outside of the pool:
1️⃣ Cellular function: Water helps transport nutrients and oxygen to cells and carries waste products away from them. Without adequate hydration, cells can't function optimally.
2️⃣ Temperature regulation: Water helps regulate body temperature by releasing heat through sweat. When you're dehydrated, your body may struggle to cool down, which can lead to overheating and heat-related illnesses.
3️⃣ Digestion and nutrient absorption: Water is required for proper digestion of food and absorption of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract. It helps break down food particles and supports the movement of food through the digestive system.
4️⃣ Joint lubrication: Hydration helps to lubricate joints. Proper joint lubrication is important for reducing friction and maintaining joint function.
5️⃣ Cognitive function: Dehydration (even mild) can affect cognitive functions such as concentration, alertness, and short-term memory.
6️⃣ Heart health: Dehydration can strain the cardiovascular system and lead to increased heart rate and blood pressure.
7️⃣ Kidney function: Proper hydration helps the kidneys to filter waste products from the blood and maintain electrolyte balance, helping prevent the formation of kidney stones.
8️⃣ Skin health: Water helps maintain skin elasticity and promotes the excretion of toxins through sweat, contributing to clearer skin.
9️⃣ Weight management: Drinking water before meals can help control appetite and promote a feeling of fullness, potentially aiding in weight management efforts.
1️⃣0️⃣ Detoxification: Water is essential for the body's natural detoxification processes, helping to flush out waste and toxins from various organs.
