WHY JOIN BABY/TODDLER & PARENT SWIMMING LESSONS BEFORE STARTING KID'S SWIMMING LESSONS?

We’ve all heard the phrase “It’s never too late to learn a new skill”. Did you know that it’s also never too early to learn a new skill?

Some parents join our Baby/Toddler and Parent lessons because they’re curious to find out what this new activity, water babies, is all about. Other parents have heard that swimming is great for their little ones and are eager to get started with their water babies. Both are valid reasons for joining us. Let’s get into a little more detail about the benefits of starting your little ones off so early in the pool.

When a baby is introduced to the water very early, they become familiar with it and are more comfortable being in this environment. Being in the water is a fantastic environment for water babies to move freely, especially for tiny babies who aren’t yet crawling. From the very beginning, they get used to the sensation of water on their face. This will definitely help to avoid any drama in the future.

When water babies are young they’re very sensitive to touch and respond quickly. When they’re in a comforting environment with warm water and they’re moving around, the water creates resistance and stimulates and massages the baby’s skin. This helps to build and strengthen their muscles which allows them to develop healthier.

It’s also never too early for water babies to learn a life skill. Babies from as young as six months can learn how to turn and float onto their backs. This skill is priceless and could one day save their life.

Another reason for your little one to join these lessons at a young age is to help develop their motor skills and coordination. Swimming also develops a baby’s muscles and joints. Teaching breath control helps a baby’s lungs and heart get stronger. Water babies will need to develop the muscles needed to hold their heads up, move their arms and legs, and work their core in coordination with the rest of their body.

When your little one is 3.5 years old and ready to join the kids swimming lessons, they’ll already be familiar with the water, comfortable in the pool environment, and know the basic skills of floating independently on their back. This is a great foundation for them to build on and go on to learn how to swim the actual swimming strokes, as well as more advanced techniques.
